What's Next for You in UX? Paths and Detours to Explore as Your Career Matures (P16)

Danielle Cooley, Principal, DGCooley Consulting
Keith Instone, IBM Corporation
Derek Poppink, User Experience Manager, Cengage Learning
Steve Tengler, Engineering Group Manager, OnStar Human-Machine Interface, OnStar by General Motors

User experience professionals come to our field from a wide variety of backgrounds and educational levels. As UX professionals reach mid-career, what is the natural progression for us? What choices do we have? What skills will different careers (e.g., product management or management consulting) or advanced user experience careers (e.g., UX group management or distinguished practitioner) require?

This panel will discuss possible career paths and the skills required for them. Panelists and panel attendees will contribute to a poster describing forecasted career paths.

Panelists TBD, but will be individuals who are at either mid-career or advanced-career stages. The panel moderator will be Brian Phelps, a Senior Consultant at Tec-Ed, a user experience consultancy. Brian, currently in his mid-career, is a user experience researcher and designer.
